March marked the 9th anniversary of The Village, and to celebrate, we asked you, our Village community, to share clinic memories and stories about how acupuncture has made a difference in your life.
Sometimes, when you send something out into the universe, you might be blown away by what comes back—and this was most definitely the case with what we thought was a small, fun idea to include in our newsletter and social media. We wanted to share this story with you for the same reason: because you never really know what impact you can have!

“Hello!
I only attended your clinic once, and it was my very first experience with acupuncture.
I made an appointment to help get my labour started; my baby was already 9 days past her due date and I’d had an incredibly long, painful and traumatic labour two years before with her older brother.
As I settled into my treatment I realized that the earliest stages of labour had already begun (prior to arriving) and the treatment helped me achieve a very calm and joyful state. I felt centred, peaceful, and prepared.
As I went to pay at the front desk I saw a whole wall of “Emily” body care products. I did not yet know if I was having a boy or girl, but I had a very dear friend named Emily who passed away when we were only 25. I’d considered “Emily” as a possible girl’s name, and this seemed like a sign that I was going to have a little girl named Emily.
I calmly treated myself to a fancy smoothie on the drive home and had a nice dinner with my husband and parents before heading to the bedroom to relax as the early stages of labour intensified.
A few hours later, we headed to the hospital and my beautiful baby girl arrived quickly, joyfully, and almost painlessly. I was of course over the moon with happiness and also grateful that I was able to experience a labour that was full of laughter and lightness after having such a traumatic experience the last time. I truly feel my acupuncture treatment was pivotal in helping me have such a beautiful birthing experience. My little girl’s name is Emily Joy, and she is just over four years old now.
My family moved to Victoria shortly after Emily was born and yet I can’t unsubscribe from your mailing list! My time at Village Acupuncture was such an important and special moment in Emily’s birth story, and I really appreciate the information you share in your newsletters. You introduced me to the concept of “glimmers” and now I look for them everywhere.
